This postgraduate course is designed for practicing surgical pathologists and pathologists in training involved in routine thyroid pathology. The course will be held in Linz from 7 to 9 May, 2025.
During the course, at least 60 cases dealing with a variety of neoplastic and non-neoplastic lesions will be presented interactively. A combination of overview lectures (addressing the major diagnostic difficulties and/or sources of confusion and pitfalls as well as the new topics in the recent WHO classification of the thyroid neoplasms) and extensive discussion of well-selected cases will be provided. Both common and rare disorders including inflammatory, tumor-like, benign neoplastic and malignant tumors will be presented. Particular attention will be paid to the diagnostic criteria with systematic analysis of differential diagnoses. A focus will be on the cytological-histological correlations. The molecular pathology of thyroid tumors and hereditary conditions will be covered and illustrated by teaching cases.
The participants will have the opportunity to review the selected digitized cases (virtual microscopy) four weeks prior to and after the course.
