Our course will present the most relevant diffuse and focal liver diseases in context with the necessary clinical background data.
The course focuses on diagnostic liver biopsies with at least 20 cases per day. Special structures such as portal fields, lobular changes, sinusoidal structures
and patterns of fibrotic transformation will be systematically analysed for diagnostic key features. Infectious and autoimmune liver diseases, liver toxicity, steatohepatitis, metabolic diseases, hepatocellular, cholangiocellular, mesenchymal
liver tumours as well as examples of hematolymphatic diseases will be presented, based on digitized H&E-stained liver biopsy slides. Stepwise, we will lead the pathways to diagnosis with the necessary histochemical and immunohistochemical adjuncts.
In addition, lectures will deepen specific diagnostic problems such as liver transplant pathology, steatohepatitis, autoimmune liver diseases, drug induced liver diseases, immunohistochemical and molecular classification of liver cell adenomas, and differential diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinomas and their mimics.
The participants will have the opportunity to review the digitized cases (virtual microscopy) four weeks prior and after the course.
